Frequently asked questions
If we're talking adult bikes, the answer is almost always yes. This is because even if you don't have any water bottle bosses on your frame there is most likely a place for you to GripLock it on. GripLock Ties are great. The Amphibian side securing slots are designed for GripLocks in particular because they hold tight and are reusable & durable while still being pretty friendly to the paint job thanks to their incorporated rubber fins. And thanks to the mastic feet on the Amphibian you should be able to accomplish a nice secure grip.
Many small kids bikes do not have enough space in the frame to fit. Nio is 5 and he rides a Trailcraft Bluesky 20. This frame does not fit an Amphibian. Super sweet bike though if you're in the market for a 20" ripper!
Many of the more recent adult frame designs have the bottle bosses moved up the down tube towards the headset compared to older frames. We at StokeMonster think that's because rider designers have realized it's easier to grab your bottle if it's not so low down by the bottom bracket. Some Amphibian owners choose to migrate the bottles up the frame for this reason, even if there's room for pedaling with two bottles where the bosses are. But as a general guide, if you have less than 11 inches from the center of your bottom bracket, to the first (lowest) bold hole on your downtube then you will probably need to shift the cages up the downtube. In this case you'll need one GripLock Tie to shift 64mm (2 1/2") upward or two GripLock Ties to shift 128mm (5") up the frame.
If you want to attach bottles where no bottle has gone before you'll need 3 Grip Lock Ties, one for each of the side securing slots on your Amphibian.
And if you're buying an Amphibian for a gift, a future bike, or an unbeknownst you at the moment, just add 3 GripLocks to be safe because you can always use them for something else if the bike doesn't need them.
If you are worried about scuffs on the paint job of your frame then yes. While we do put mastic feet on the Amphibian, and GripLock Ties have rubber fins, some grit will most definitely get in there and rub a bit, making the paint a little cloudy where the mastic & rubber met the frame should you ever want to remove your Amphibian. StokeMonster will not be held responsible for any scuffs on your frame. If you're worried about scuffs then either use the Amphibian only where the bottle bosses are (no frame contact in this case), or find a different solution for carrying more bottles.
Functionally the Amphibian works great shifted up the downtube. If you have no bottle bosses (bolts) on your frame and you're relying only on the mastic & ties then there will be a little bit of a wiggle to things. Frames with bigger tubing work best, but even more traditional frames with skinny tubing will still work in most cases. If you have any questions feel free to send us a message, we're happy to help.
Absolutely. Provided you can use at least one water bottle bolt on your frame, the Amphibian is tried and true over rock gardens, big gaps, frozen chunder, and unfortunately for us but great for our R&D, even the stuff that can go wrong on some of those kinds of features.

In honor of the great John Cain, stepbrother to Luke and uncle to the boys. John is a beast, and you wouldn't know it by his social demeanor because he's a very kind, conscious, and positive individual. He's big on hugs. But when it comes to putting the hammer down he is a manimal. Sometimes on trail we'll ask ourselves what would Johnny do? He would shred it, that's what John would do. Let the StokeMonster eat.
